These are just some of the videos I took, mainly for the companies I am previously with, especially for social media content. Time for some FAQs:
Q: Are all these videos taken by yourself?
A: Yes. All of these videos are coordinated, taken, edited by yours truly.
Q: What are the tools you use to make these videos?
A: Depending on what the company's tools and budget have at the moment. If you do not have a DSLR camera, I'll use my iPhone to create social videos. For video editing, I use Adobe Premier Pro. If not, iMovie is also sufficient.
Q: Are you sure you did all these by yourself?
A: Yes.
Q: (Still not sure) I am going to give you a video assignment. Can you finish them within 2-3 days?
A: No. I may need some time to plan my video, shoot the scenes, edit them, put in subtitles and other things. Please let me have at least a week to put all of these altogether.
(2-3 days or less is possible if the video does not require any stories and planning - just plain shooting and basic editing.)
House For Lelong was a job interview assignment for a hotel, where I had to:
- Sell my apartment and convince a potential buyer why he or she should want to live there;
- Build my video on one of the 3Cs - Connection, Character or Craftsmanship.
I chose Connection as the aim for me in this assignment is to forge a personal connection through my video.
Firstly, my focus is to satisfy the basic need for a person’s sense of belonging in the area hence, there were snippets that speaks about my home’s surrounding area and what kind of activities they can do, and how it is fully connected through easy means of public transportation.
Another focus was on taking a different approach in creating my video. I am not a real estate agent, so in my video I introduced more of my personality, and tell my stories in the video instead of mentioning the technicalities of things like price and area size.
Like me, people like to connect with real people. So, to break down barriers to attract potential buyers, I tell stories of my personal experiences and every day tasks eg: cooking, listening to music, collecting your mail, setting up a tent on the balcony when I was a kid, for instance, to sell these experiences, inspire emotions, to create a strong bond, so as to draw them on a personal level - without being pushy and ‘sale-sy’.
Should I really be selling my house, what I’d do will be to:
Put the most important information on the screen. Display the pertinent details like price, square footage, lot size, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and any other information about the house, and CTA to contact.
Move through the house the way people would move through it when they walk in. 360 video.
More details on the neighbourhood and market updates.
For the rest of the videos, these were shot for a hotel I was previously with, and mainly shooting for the events around the hotel, as well as capturing stories from colleagues that can be made into content for our social media channels. As these were the more popular content that viewers liked to engage with, I came up with a series of 'People of Novotel' to showcase our colleagues' contributions to the hotel and our guests.
